At South32 Worsley Alumina, building strong, positive relationships with our communities in the South West and Peel regions is fundamental.
Our recent Local Voices Community Pulse Survey has provided us with invaluable insights into how local residents perceive our operations and their impact. This feedback is crucial as we continuously strive to be a responsible neighbour and enhance our engagement.
The survey offered a deeper understanding of community sentiment, particularly regarding how we manage our local footprint. It reinforced the importance of ensuring community voices are heard and considered, and we are committed to being responsive to these perspectives. While sentiment varies across regions, we're actively exploring new ways to connect and tailor our approach to meet diverse local needs.
Community feedback highlighted environmental impact as a significant area of interest, underscoring our unwavering commitment to responsible environmental management. We will continue to use this feedback to guide how we can better communicate our efforts in response to community concerns.
We are proud of our role as a significant employer in the South West and Peel regions for 40 years, supporting thousands of local jobs and families. Our economic contributions continue to be viewed positively, with communities recognising our role in providing local jobs, actually engaging with over 180 local suppliers, and supporting regional prosperity. What we do here, operating one of the world's largest alumina refineries, is also globally important, delivering a metal essential for a low-carbon future.
These insights are actively shaping how we engage and communicate within our local regions. We are also investing in creating strong and meaningful partnerships with the Traditional Owners of the land where we operate, and we have a long-term commitment to programs that make a positive difference in our local communities through our social investment initiatives and Community Grants Program. We believe that community trust is earned through consistent, transparent, and responsive dialogue. We are committed to listening, learning, and continuously improving our operations and community interactions to ensure long-term sustainability and shared benefits for all.
